2019 Season

Each year, WTF awards the prestigious Bill Foeller and Boris Sagal Directing Fellowships and the J. Michael Friedman Fellowship to three up-and-coming theatre artists of exceptional talent.

The Bill Foeller Fellowship gives a director who is a woman and/or an artist of color the opportunity to create an ambitious workshop production. The recipient of the 2019 Foeller Fellowship is Katie Lindsay, who will direct a workshop production of Orlando, a play by Sarah Ruhl, in the Directing Studio on July 15-16.

In honor of the late American lyricist and composer J. Michael Friedman, the J. Michael Friedman Fellowship identifies an early-career theatre artist of outstanding talent, versatility, impact, and humanity who has demonstrated an artistic commitment to Williamstown Theatre Festival and invites them to make new work for a summer. The recipient of the 2019 Friedman Fellowship is Maya Davis, who will direct two workshop productions including A Walrus in the Body of a Crocodile, by MJ Kaufman, in the Directing Studio on July 27th at 8PM and 11PM.
