2015 Season

ABOUT THE NON-EQUITY PROGRAM:

The Non-Equity Company is a nationally recognized, highly competitive group of young actors drawn primarily from the top graduate programs in the country. Members of the Non-Equity Company supplement the Equity Company in Main Stage and Nikos Stage productions and are cast in principal roles in the Free Theatre and Fellowship Project productions. The Fellowship Project company members collaborate on the creation of a new play and a new musical throughout the course of the summer, and the Free Theatre company members perform in a unique production of a play or musical for families, set outside amongst the beautiful Berkshire countryside. Non-Equity company members are also involved in projects and special events directed by the Workshop Directing Corps.

WTF is part of the Equity Membership Candidate program and EMC points can be obtained. College credit can be arranged through some academic institutions (contact your registrar for more information). Scholarships are available on a need basis.  Applications are due in January.

The Williamstown Theatre Festival is a renowned summer theater. At its core is a company of vibrant, early-career actors, the Non-Equity Company. This is a group with a venerable legacy: often “Non-Eqs” from WTF go on to have noteworthy careers – former Non-Eqs include Kate Burton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kathryn Hahn, Logan Marshall Green, Chris Pine, and many others. Selection of the Non-Equity Company is extremely competitive; each year, through extensive auditions, we bring together a superbly talented and versatile group, including many recent graduates of the country’s top graduate acting programs. This season’s group is outstanding; they landed several roles in our Main Stage productions (in Off The Main Road alongside Kyra Sedgwick and Estelle Parsons, directed by Evan Cabnet, and ensemble roles in the world premiere of Unknown Soldier, directed by Trip Cullman)and gave unforgettable performances at our Cabarets and in our Blackbox.

Our “Non-Eqs” this summer performed alongside industry veterans on the Main Stage, Nikos Stage, Free Theatre and Fellowship Company. They performed in late-night shows helmed by our Directing Corps, and — in our workshops and reading series — and helped develop new work. You will not find a harder working or more talented bunch of early-career actors anywhere.

We are thrilled to introduce them to you in a showcase on October 26th. This unique evening will also feature the work of many emerging writers and directors from the WTF family.
Showcase directors include Molly Beach Murphy, Gabriel Vega Weissman, Ben Ferber and Jason McDowell-Green. The showcase is produced by Jason McDowell-Green and Ben Ferber.
