ABOUT THE NON-EQUITY PROGRAM:
Williamstown Theatre Festival is a renowned summer theatre. At its core is a company of vibrant, early-career actors: the Non-Equity Company. This is a group with a venerable legacy. Non-Eqs from WTF frequently go on to have noteworthy careers—former Non-Eqs include Patricia Clarkson, Paul Giamatti, Kathryn Hahn, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pine, Phillipa Soo, Myra Lucretia Taylor, and many others. Selection of the Non-Equity Company is extremely competitive; each year, through extensive auditions, we bring together a superbly talented and versatile group, including many members and alumni of the country’s top graduate acting programs.
This group of Non-Eqs from 2019 is outstanding. They performed alongside industry veterans on the Main and Nikos Stages in Robert O’Hara’s revival of A Raisin in the Sun alongside S. Epatha Merkerson, Francois Battiste, and Nikiya Matthis. They played the central characters in our COMMUNITY WORKS production of Summer’s Soldier, by Boo Killebrew, directed by Jenna Worsham. They were the casts of our Directing Studio projects and our Fellowship Projects: Orlando by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Bill Foeller Fellow, Katie Lindsay; Walrus in the Body of a Crocodile by MJ Kaufman, directed by J. Michael Friedman Fellow, Maya Davis; and Soft by Donja R. Love, directed by Boris Sagal Fellow, Jason McDowell-Green.
These Non-Eqs were also the casts of one-hour plays directed by our Directing Assistants in our Directing Studio series—many of which were world premieres. They gave unforgettable performances in our Cabarets and in our Fridays@3 reading series, and they helped develop new plays and musicals in the many workshops we held throughout the summer.
You won’t find a harder working or more talented bunch of early-career actors anywhere. We’re thrilled to introduce them to you in our showcase this fall, produced by Zach Krohn, WTF’s Director of Professional Training, and Maya Davis.
